Forestry Experience & Forest Immersion
This tour is a collaboration between Local Guide Japan and Yamashigoto Sozosha, a collective of professional foresters. You will enter private forest lands not open to the general public to experience the authentic spirit of Japanese forestry.
Forest Walk & Professional Demonstration: Journey into the heart of the mountain with a lumberjack to hear the “story of the forest.” Trace the history of how this land has supported local lives and notice the breath of the ecosystem—animal tracks and hidden signs of life. Witness a breathtaking professional tree-felling demonstration, feeling the true power and life force of nature.
Forest Artwork: Stop looking up at the forest and look down at your feet. Discover a beautiful, mysterious world in the colors of fallen leaves, the shapes of nuts, and soft green moss. By gathering these seasonal treasures, you will create a one-of-a-kind piece of art in the tranquility of the woods—a moment where the more you look, the more interesting the forest becomes.
Tree Felling Experience (Option): Take a saw or axe in hand and face a tree that has endured wind and snow for many years. Feel the actual weight of the wood and the immense span of forest time. Felling a tree is not just about bringing it down; it is a vital task to pass the forest’s cycle of life on to the next generation.
Tree Climbing (Option): Using specialized ropes and gear, slowly climb high into the canopy. Experience a breathtaking world from a bird’s perspective, looking down upon the vibrant life of the forest from above.
Woodworking (Option): Engage in a dialogue with wood as you craft your own original item. Take home a tangible piece of the North Alps forest as a lasting memory of your journey.

Our goal is to provide a seamless and all-inclusive experience. For your convenience, please note the key details regarding pricing and service:
- Pricing:
– Main Plan (2 hours): Included in the standard Local Guide Japan tour fee
– Optional Plans: An additional professional guide fee of ¥10,000 per hour will be added to the standard fee (e.g., ¥10,000 for a 1-hour option, ¥20,000 for a 2-hour option).
- How to Book: To ensure a relaxed experience including travel time and preparations, please book a time slot that is 2 hours longer (+2 hours) than the total duration of your selected activities

- Pick-up & Plan Options: We provide private door-to-door service from Hakuba, Nagano City, Azumino, and Matsumoto. You can choose between a 4-hour, 6-hour, or 8-hour plan to suit your interests.
- Flexibility: You are free to combine the Main Plan with any Optional Plans. We can flexibly customize the itinerary to suit your interests and schedule.
- Safety: Forestry activities involve the use of tools; strictly following the guide’s safety instructions is mandatory
- Insurance: For your peace of mind, we strongly recommend that all guests obtain comprehensive travel and activity insurance prior to the tour. Please ensure your policy covers your specific itinerary and any planned outdoor activities.
- Personal Belongings: LOCAL GUIDE JAPAN is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of personal items, including mobile phones, cameras, and gear, during the tour. We recommend keeping your belongings secure and carrying only what is necessary.
- Weather Policy: In the case of severe weather, the tour may be canceled or its duration adjusted for your safety and comfort. We may also propose alternative options, such as a sightseeing tour, to ensure you still have a wonderful and memorable day. In the event of a cancellation, a refund will be issued minus a 10% administrative fee. Please note that no refunds will be provided for tours that are shortened due to changing conditions.
